Karachi Board HSC Part-I Pre-Engineering Result 2026: Only 43% Cleared All Six Papers
Published · BIEK Karachi, HSC Part-I (Class XI) Annual 2026
Karachi’s intermediate board has started its 2026 Part-I results with the toughest headline in years. Fewer than half of the city’s Pre-Engineering students cleared every paper. Most of the rest passed some papers and now have to re-appear in the others. Below is the full result, with figures from the Controller of Examinations and our own count of the board’s 129-page official gazette. We also explain what “Ungraded” means and what to do next.

How Many Papers Students Passed
BIEK reports the result by the number of papers each candidate passed, not as a single pass rate. Controller of Examinations Zarina Rashid gave these figures, as reported by Express Tribune and Daily Pakistan:
| Papers passed | Candidates | Share of those who appeared |
|---|---|---|
| All six (passed) | 6,310 | 42.97% |
| 5 of 6 | 79 | 0.54% |
| 4 of 6 | 747 | 5.09% |
| 3 of 6 | 1,827 | 12.44% |
| 2 of 6 | 1,864 | 12.69% |
| 1 of 6 | 1,783 | 12.14% |
| None listed | 2,073 | 14.12% |
“None listed” is our calculation: appeared minus everyone in a pass category. These candidates passed no paper, or their result was withheld or will be declared later. The board did not publish this figure.
The pattern is striking. Almost as many students passed some papers (6,300) as passed all of them (6,310). Roughly one in eight passed only one paper. Very few (79) missed by a single paper, so most of those who fell short have several papers to clear, not one.
Why So Many Students Fell Short: The 40% Rule
2026 is the first year of the new grading system in Sindh. The Universities & Boards Department approved it on 21 January 2026, following IBCC decisions, and it applies to SSC-I and HSSC-I from the first annual exams of 2026. Part-II follows in 2027. The two changes that matter here:
- The pass mark rose from 33% to 40% in every paper.
- A paper below 40% is graded U — “Ungraded”. It is not counted as passed, and the candidate must re-appear in that paper if they meet the other eligibility conditions.
For comparison, about 45.0% of Karachi’s Pre-Engineering Part-I candidates passed in 2025 (8,569 of 19,023, from reputable reports), under the old 33% mark. This year about 43.0% cleared all six papers at 40%. The two years are not measured the same way, so the gap is only a rough guide. But the direction is clear: the higher bar has turned many borderline 33–39% papers into U grades. The full scale is explained in our new grading system guide.
What the Gazette Shows: Marks and Grades
The gazette lists each passing candidate as a roll number followed by marks in brackets. For the 6,290 candidates we counted under “6 Papers”, that number is their total out of 550. Here is what those marks show:
- Highest aggregate: 507/550 (92.2%). Only 7 candidates scored 500 or more, and 14 scored 90% or more.
- Typical score: the median full-pass candidate scored 359/550 (about 65%); the average was 363/550 (about 66%).
- 941 candidates scored 80% or more, while 447 passed every paper but with under 50% overall.
- No A++. Not a single candidate reached 96%, the new A++ band.
Mapping each full-pass aggregate onto the official Sindh grade bands gives this approximate spread:
Our estimate from aggregate marks in the official gazette. The gazette prints no grades, and your DMC grades each subject separately, so your own grade card is the final word. Our count of full passes (6,290) is 20 lower than the 6,310 reported, probably because a few results are withheld or declared later.
Most students who cleared all six papers landed in the C and C+ bands (51–70%). In other words, plenty of candidates passed, but few did so comfortably.
Which Colleges Had the Most Full Passes
The gazette covers about 259 colleges and higher secondary schools. Government colleges dominate Karachi’s Pre-Engineering stream: 145 government institutions produced 4,989 of the full passes, about four in five. About 35 institutions had no candidate clear all six papers.
| College | Passed all six |
|---|---|
| D.J. Sindh Govt. Science College | 530 |
| Adamjee Govt. Science College | 412 |
| Dehli Govt. College | 312 |
| BAMM P.E.C.H.S. Govt. College for Women | 264 |
| Khatoon-e-Pakistan Govt. Degree College for Women | 255 |
| Sir Syed Govt. Girls College, Nazimabad | 242 |
| Govt. College for Men, Nazimabad | 197 |
| Govt. Degree College for Women, Nazimabad | 193 |
| Govt. Degree Science/Commerce College, Malir Cantt. | 190 |
| Bahria College (Karsaz) | 188 |
These counts reflect each college’s size as much as its results. The gazette lists only passing candidates, so a college’s pass rate cannot be worked out from it. Use this table to see where Karachi’s Pre-Engineering students study, not as a ranking. The highest aggregates (502–507) came from Sir Syed Govt. Girls College, Adamjee Govt. Science College and BAMM P.E.C.H.S. Govt. College for Women.
How to Check and Read Your Result in the Gazette
- Open the from the BIEK results page.
- Press Ctrl + F (or “Find in page” on your phone) and type your six-digit roll number.
- Look at the heading above your roll number: 6 Papers means you passed all papers; 3 Papers means you passed three and must re-appear in the rest.
- The number in brackets is the total marks of the papers you passed. For example, 700573(200) under “3 Papers” means three papers passed, worth 200 marks in total.
- Not listed at all? You passed no paper, or your result is withheld. Confirm with your college before planning a re-appear.
The gazette shows only totals. Your subject-wise marks and grades come on your marks certificate through your college. For how the gazette, online result and DMC differ, see our DMC vs gazette vs online result guide.
What to Do Next
- Note exactly which papers are U. You re-appear only in those, not the whole year.
- Watch for BIEK’s re-appear (supplementary) notice. As of 14 October 2026, BIEK had not posted a 2026 Part-I supplementary schedule. Forms usually open soon after the annual result, and missing the window costs you a chance.
- Think a mark is wrong? Apply for scrutiny. BIEK runs a scrutiny window after each result. Check its notice for the Part-I fee and deadline, and read our rechecking guide on what scrutiny can and cannot change.
- Start Part-II now. Your Part-I marks count towards your final HSSC result. If you are aiming for engineering universities, see which ones accept Part-I marks for early admission.
Other BIEK Part-I Groups: Still Awaited
As of 14 October 2026, Pre-Engineering is the only Part-I group BIEK has declared. These groups are still awaited:
- Science Pre-Medical
- Science General
- Commerce
- Humanities
- Home Economics
Sindh boards had aimed to declare Class 9 and 11 results by 31 August 2026, according to a June report in The Nation, but that target was missed. The other Sindh boards (Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad) had not declared Part-I by 14 October either. Follow the Sindh boards page for updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
When was the Karachi Board HSC Part-I Pre-Engineering result 2026 announced?
BIEK declared the HSC Part-I Science Pre-Engineering Annual 2026 result on Friday, 2 October 2026, on the directions of Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho. It was published as an official gazette PDF on biek.edu.pk. It was the first Part-I group BIEK declared in 2026.
What was the pass percentage of BIEK Pre-Engineering Part-I 2026?
BIEK did not publish an official percentage. According to the Controller of Examinations, 14,683 candidates appeared and 6,310 passed all six papers, which works out to about 43.0%. Another 6,300 passed between one and five papers.
Why did so many Karachi Pre-Engineering students fail?
This was the first Part-I result under Sindh’s new grading system, which raised the pass mark from 33% to 40% in every paper. Any paper below 40% is graded U (Ungraded) and is not counted as passed. Papers that would have scraped through at 33–39% last year now count as not passed.
What does “Ungraded” or U mean on my BIEK result?
U means you scored below 40% in that paper. It is not counted as passed, and you must re-appear in that paper, provided you meet the other eligibility conditions. You do not repeat the papers you have already passed.
How do I check my BIEK Pre-Engineering Part-I result?
Open the results page on biek.edu.pk and download the HSC Part-I Pre-Engineering Annual 2026 gazette. Find your college, then search your roll number with Ctrl + F. The number in brackets after your roll number is the total marks of the papers you passed, and the heading above it (6 Papers, 5 Papers and so on) tells you how many papers you passed.
My roll number is not in the BIEK gazette. What does that mean?
The gazette lists only candidates who passed at least one paper. If your roll number is missing, you either did not pass any paper or your result was withheld or declared later. Ask your college or the BIEK office to confirm which, before planning your re-appear.
When will the BIEK Pre-Medical, Commerce and other Part-I results come?
As of 14 October 2026, BIEK has declared only Pre-Engineering. Pre-Medical, Science General, Commerce, Humanities and Home Economics are still awaited. BIEK announces each group separately, and we add each date to our Karachi Board result page as soon as it is posted.
Who was the topper of BIEK Pre-Engineering Part-I 2026?
BIEK does not announce position holders on the Part-I result; positions come on the combined Part-II (12th class) result. The highest aggregate we found in the gazette is 507 out of 550, at Sir Syed Govt. Girls College, Nazimabad. The gazette lists roll numbers only, not names.
