DMC vs Gazette vs Online Result: Which Is Your Official 1st Year Result?
Published · For 1st year (HSSC Part-I) students
On result day your 1st year result appears in three different forms — the online result, the gazette, and later your DMC (result card). They are not the same thing, and students mix them up every year. Here is exactly what each one is, when you get it, which one is official, and what to do if they ever disagree.
The Three at a Glance
| Document | When you get it | Official? | From where | What it shows |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Online result | Result day, within minutes | Provisional (unofficial) | Board website + SMS | Your pass/fail status and marks |
| Result gazette | Result day (same day) | Official board record | Board website (PDF) | Every candidate’s roll number and result |
| DMC / result card | A few weeks later | Official personal document | Your college (board-printed) | Your subject-wise marks, grade and total |
1. The Online Result — Fast, but Provisional
The online result is what you check on your board’s website or by SMS within minutes of the announcement. It shows your status and marks and is the quickest way to know your result on the day. But it is provisional — a convenience copy, not the final legal document. Most boards print a line like “this is a provisional result” on it. It is perfectly fine for celebrating, for telling your college, and for applying to universities as “result awaited”. It just is not the official record. Full steps to check it are on the 1st Year Result 2026 guide.
2. The Gazette — the Official Record for Result Day
The gazette is the board’s official result document: one PDF listing every candidate’s roll number with their result, and for most boards the grade or marks. It is published on result day, the same time as the online result. Because it is a single file, it is the fastest official source when the result website is overloaded in the first hour, and it lets you check a whole class at once by searching roll numbers. It is the authoritative board-wide record until your personal DMC arrives. Download your board’s gazette and learn how to search it on our result gazette page.
3. The DMC (Result Card) — Your Official Personal Marksheet
The DMC — Detailed Marks Certificate (also called the marks certificate, result card or result intimation) is your own official document. It shows your subject-wise marks, grade and total, printed and stamped by the board. Regular students collect it from their college a few weeks after the result; private candidates collect or download it from the board. This is the document you keep for your records and need for final admissions.
For 1st year it is a Part-I result card covering your 11th class subjects. After you pass Part-II (12th class), the board issues the consolidated HSSC certificate that covers both years. So your Part-I DMC is not the end — it feeds into your final intermediate result, which is why you should keep it safe.
So Which One Is “Official”?
The gazette and the DMC are the official records; the online result is provisional. In practice they all carry the same marks, so you rarely need to worry. But if they ever disagree, the board’s official document wins, not the online copy. And if you think the marks on the official document are themselves wrong, that is what rechecking is for — apply within your board’s deadline (about 15 days for most boards).
Which One You Actually Need, and When
- On result day: use the online result (or SMS) for a quick check, and the gazette as a backup when the site is slow.
- Applying to university now: the online result is usually enough to apply as “result awaited”; submit the DMC when it comes.
- Final admission / records: you need the official DMC / marks certificate from your college.
- Checking a whole class, or lost roll number: search the gazette PDF.
The Typical Timeline
- Result day: the board declares the result — online result and gazette go live together (Punjab’s 1st year result came on 22 October 2026).
- Same day: check your marks online or in the gazette; save a printout.
- A few weeks later: the board prints the DMCs and sends them to colleges; collect yours.
- After Part-II (12th): the board issues the final consolidated HSSC certificate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a DMC?
DMC stands for Detailed Marks Certificate — some boards call it the marks certificate, result card or result intimation. It is the official, board-printed document that shows your subject-wise marks, grade and total for the exam. For 1st year it covers your HSSC Part-I subjects; the full HSSC certificate is issued after Part-II. Regular students collect the DMC from their college a few weeks after the result; private candidates collect or download it from the board.
Is the online result official?
No — the online result (and the SMS result) is provisional. It is accurate and fine for checking quickly on result day and for most admission applications as “result awaited”, but it is not the final legal document. The official records are the gazette and your DMC. If the online result and your DMC ever differ, the board’s record on the DMC/gazette is what counts.
What is the result gazette?
The gazette is the board’s official result document — a single PDF listing every candidate’s roll number with their result (and, for most boards, grade or marks). It is published on result day. It is the fastest official source when the result website is overloaded, and it is useful for checking a whole class at once. See our result gazette page for every board’s gazette.
Which one do I need for college or university admission?
For final admission you need your official DMC / marks certificate (and later the HSSC certificate after Part-II). While your result is new, most universities accept the online result or let you apply as “result awaited” and submit the DMC when it arrives. Keep a printout of your online result on result day, and collect your DMC from your college as soon as it is issued.
My online result and DMC show different marks — what do I do?
This is rare, but the board’s official record (the DMC and gazette) is final, not the online copy. If you believe the marks themselves are wrong on the official document, apply for rechecking within your board’s deadline (about 15 days for most boards). See our 11th class rechecking guide.
When will I get my 1st year result card (DMC)?
Boards publish the online result and gazette first, on result day, and then print and send the DMCs/result cards to colleges over the following weeks. There is no single national date — your college hands them out once the board delivers them. Until then, your online result is enough for a quick check.
Do I get a separate DMC for 1st year (Part-I)?
Yes. You get a Part-I result card/DMC showing your 11th class subject marks. After you pass Part-II (12th class), the board issues the consolidated HSSC certificate covering both parts. So keep your Part-I DMC safe — it feeds into your final intermediate result.
Notes
Based on how Pakistan’s intermediate boards (BISE) issue HSSC results: a provisional online/SMS result and the official gazette on result day, followed by the printed DMC / marks certificate through colleges. Names vary by board (marks certificate, result card, result intimation), but the roles are the same. Always treat the board’s official document as final, and confirm the exact process on your own board’s website.
