FBISE HSSC-I Result 2026: Pre-Engineering 79.55%, Commerce 35.78%
Published · FBISE Islamabad, HSSC Part-I 1st Annual 2026
The Federal Board declared its HSSC Part-I result on 9 September 2026. The 65.31% headline hides a wide spread. A science student in an Army Public School passed far more often than a Commerce student, a private candidate or a student in Gilgit-Baltistan. We went through FBISE’s own result gazette, including its group summaries, its 62 subject tables and every candidate’s entry, to show where the result was strong and where it was not.

Group-Wise Result: Pre-Engineering First, Commerce Last
These are the board’s figures for regular candidates, who make up 93% of everyone who sat the exam:
| Group | Appeared | Passed | Pass % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-Engineering | 9,383 | 7,464 | 79.55% |
| Pre-Medical | 27,248 | 20,943 | 76.86% |
| General / Computer Science | 42,225 | 28,943 | 68.54% |
| Humanities | 15,681 | 7,682 | 48.99% |
| Commerce | 3,563 | 1,275 | 35.78% |
| Pre-Home Economics | 44 | 26 | 59.09% |
| All regular candidates | 98,144 | 66,333 | 67.59% |
The biggest group by far is General / Computer Science (ICS), with 42,225 regular candidates. That is more than Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering combined, and its 68.54% sits close to the board average. The science groups did well; Humanities and Commerce pulled the average down.
Why Commerce Came Last
Only 1,275 of 3,563 regular Commerce candidates passed. The subject tables show why: the core Commerce papers had the lowest pass rates in the whole gazette. Principles of Economics was passed by 48.65%, Principles of Commerce by 54.62% and Principles of Accounting by 58.33%. A Commerce student has to clear all of them, so one weak paper is enough to miss out. Boys fared worst: just 638 of 2,352 regular Commerce boys passed (27.13%), and among private Commerce candidates only 57 of 547 passed (10.42%).
Girls Passed More Often in Every Group
Regular girls passed at 73.84% and regular boys at 60.56%. Girls were ahead in every group, and the gap was widest outside the sciences:
| Group | Boys | Girls |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Engineering | 76.67% | 84.85% |
| Pre-Medical | 68.86% | 80.02% |
| General / Computer Science | 62.72% | 77.19% |
| Humanities | 31.81% | 56.58% |
| Commerce | 27.13% | 52.60% |
In Humanities, 6,153 of 10,874 girls passed against 1,529 of 4,807 boys. The same pattern appeared at KP boards this year; see our Kohat analysis, where regular girls passed at twice the rate of boys.
Subject by Subject
Compulsory subjects were passed by almost everyone. The weak points were Commerce papers and Mathematics:
Source: FBISE HSSC-I 1st Annual 2026 gazette, “Subject Wise Result Statistics” (regular and private combined). For Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science we show the main entry; the gazette also lists smaller separate entries for these subjects with lower pass rates.
Mathematics, taken by 63,576 candidates, was passed by 72.06%, so about 17,766 students now have a maths paper to clear. Among private candidates the maths pass rate was only 31.29%.
13,765 Students Missed by One Subject
FBISE’s summary also shows how many subjects each failing regular candidate failed. Of 31,225 regular candidates who did not pass, 13,765 (44%) failed just one subject. Most of them are one re-sit away from passing.
| Subjects failed | Candidates |
|---|---|
| 1 | 13,765 |
| 2 | 8,170 |
| 3 | 5,538 |
| 4 | 2,073 |
| 5 | 921 |
| 6 | 504 |
| 7 | 227 |
Results by Type of School
FBISE examines 929 institutions, from Islamabad and the cantonments to Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistani schools in the Gulf. Grouping every candidate in the gazette by type of institution shows a wide gap:

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Army Public Schools & Colleges | 101 | 11,344 | 10,278 | 90.6% |
| Fazaia / PAF institutions | 36 | 4,216 | 3,768 | 89.4% |
| Cadet colleges | 23 | 1,267 | 1,086 | 85.7% |
| Bahria / Navy institutions | 15 | 2,717 | 2,176 | 80.1% |
| Federal Government (FG) institutions | 49 | 8,199 | 6,282 | 76.6% |
| Overseas Pakistani schools (Gulf) | 23 | 1,963 | 1,358 | 69.2% |
| Private colleges & others | 484 | 48,452 | 29,994 | 61.9% |
| Islamabad Model Colleges | 75 | 13,585 | 7,565 | 55.7% |
| Gilgit-Baltistan institutions | 104 | 11,028 | 5,032 | 45.6% |
Our grouping by institution name, so the figures are approximate. They cover the 103,408 candidates who received a pass or fail result. “Private colleges & others” mixes private colleges with private-candidate centres.
Army Public Schools passed 90.6% of their candidates, and 42 institutions with at least 20 candidates passed every one of them. At the other end, the 104 Gilgit-Baltistan institutions examined by FBISE passed 45.6%, and the government-run Islamabad Model Colleges, the capital’s largest public network, passed 55.7%.
Those who passed generally did well. Among the 67,844 passing candidates, the median total was 417 out of 600 (about 70%), 11,238 scored 80% or more, and 89 scored 90% or more. The highest Part-I total in the gazette was 575/600.
Private Candidates: 21.75%
Private (ex) candidates, who study without a college, passed at 21.75%, under a third of the regular rate:
| Group | Appeared | Passed | Pass % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-Engineering | 269 | 86 | 31.97% |
| Pre-Medical | 925 | 275 | 29.73% |
| Humanities | 2,951 | 658 | 22.30% |
| General / Computer Science | 2,272 | 439 | 19.32% |
| Commerce | 547 | 57 | 10.42% |

- Grades: how the new A++ to U scale works is explained in our grading guide.
How 2026 Compares With Other Boards and 2025
FBISE’s 65.31% sits mid-table among this year’s Part-I results: below Bannu (83%) and Malakand (81.20%), and above Abbottabad (63.49%), Swat (62.55%) and Kohat (27.01%). Every board’s figure is on our 11th Class Result 2026 page. Against last year, FBISE is up about 2.9 points: its HSSC-I 1st Annual 2025 gazette showed 62.40% (60,794 passed). A widely shared 58.75% figure for 2025 does not match that gazette.
